Beginners can use the defaults, but should not change ports, DNS, TUN and system proxy settings together without understanding them. For Linux users who need a graphical interface, it is one of the main candidates on the download list.

FlClash

Cross-Platform

FlClash supports Windows, macOS, Linux and Android, making it suitable for setups that combine computers with Android phones. Its main value is platform coverage, not forcing users into complex configuration. With an existing Clash YAML file or compatible subscription, import it separately on each system, then grant the required system proxy or Android VPN service permissions.

If your device mix includes Linux and Android, FlClash can reduce the cost of switching between clients. Keep in mind that configuration files may be shared, but system-specific settings such as LAN listening, ports, DNS and TUN may not be suitable for direct copying. Across devices, treat subscriptions and rules as reusable components, while handling system permissions separately on each device.

Windows Alternative

Clash Nyanpasu is another Windows graphical client to consider. It also organizes everyday tasks around configuration management, proxy groups and rule modes, making it suitable for users who understand the basics and want to compare different desktop layouts. Look beyond the home screen: check how easy it is to find configuration import, logs, the system proxy toggle and error messages.

If the goal is simply to complete a first installation quickly, Clash Plus offers a more direct path. If you are already comparing Verge Rev, Nyanpasu and other clients, decide based on the location of settings, perceived resource usage and compatibility with your existing configuration. Do not run multiple clients that take control of the system proxy or use the same port.

Clash for Windows

Archived

Clash for Windows is the classic client behind many older tutorials, but the project is no longer maintained. It uses the original Clash core family, so newer configuration fields intended for mihomo or Meta cannot always be handled the same way. If it remains on an older device, record the configuration directory, subscription URL, proxy mode and port settings before planning a migration.

New users do not need to install CFW just to follow older tutorials. The core ideas in most tutorials still apply—importing a configuration, choosing a proxy group, enabling the system proxy and viewing logs—but menu locations differ in newer clients. If an old configuration fails to load after migration, check core-field compatibility before copying the entire legacy program directory.

Clash Meta for Android

Android

Clash Meta for Android, often abbreviated as CMFA, is a Meta-based client for Android. After importing a configuration, Android must grant VPN service permission before app traffic can pass through the client. It suits users who need to inspect proxy groups, rules and connection status and are willing to understand battery optimization, background operation and the Android VPN icon.

Android manufacturers manage background tasks differently. If the client stops working after the screen locks, check the system battery policy and background permissions first. If the configuration will not start, then inspect field errors or port conflicts in the logs. Importing a subscription without starting the VPN service does not mean traffic is already being handled by the rules.

Surfboard

Android Alternative

Surfboard is an independent Android implementation that handles common subscription, proxy group and rule workflows. It is not simply equivalent to the original Clash or mihomo core, so verify field support before importing a complex configuration. Basic subscriptions are usually easier to migrate; configurations containing scripts, special DNS settings or core-specific fields require item-by-item review.

It suits users who already have a compatible configuration or want another Android client option. If a configuration imports successfully but will not start, review the parsing details provided by the app and troubleshoot from a minimal configuration instead of adding several override files at once.

ClashX Meta

Archived

ClashX Meta is designed around the macOS menu bar and provides Meta-based capabilities, but it is no longer maintained. Existing users may be familiar with switching proxy modes, proxy groups and the system proxy from the menu bar. Those concepts transfer to maintained macOS clients, although the entry points and configuration directories will change.

For new installations, Clash Plus, Clash Verge Rev or FlClash is a better choice. Before migrating, retain the subscription URL and any YAML files you maintain yourself. If the old configuration depends on specific overrides or enhanced fields, rebuild and test them individually in the new client rather than copying old caches and runtime state wholesale.

Six Things to Check When Choosing a Client

The client name is only the entry point. Stable operation depends on the platform, core, configuration and system permissions being compatible with one another.

  1. Confirm the Device Platform and Processor Architecture

    First distinguish Windows, macOS, Android, iOS and Linux. On macOS, also check whether the device uses Intel or Apple Silicon; on Linux, confirm the package format used by the distribution. The download page lists the appropriate entry for each platform.

  2. Confirm Which Core Fields the Configuration Requires

    Standard subscriptions are usually recognized by multiple clients. When using mihomo- or Meta-specific protocols, rule providers, DNS or TUN fields, choose the corresponding core family. An archived original Clash client should not be used as the benchmark for new configuration capabilities.

  3. Prefer an Actively Maintained Client

    Maintenance status affects compatibility with new systems, core updates and bug fixes. Discontinued CFW and ClashX Meta are better suited to identifying legacy environments than serving as default choices for new installations.

  4. Assess How Deeply You Need to Configure the Client

    If you only need to import a subscription and use rule modes, a simpler interface is usually better. Choose a desktop client with full advanced controls when you need to edit overrides, inspect connection logs or adjust TUN or DNS settings.

  5. Avoid Enabling Multiple System Proxy Tools at Once

    Multiple clients may compete for mixed ports, the system proxy, VPN or the TUN interface. During migration, exit the old client before starting the new one, then check that the system proxy is controlled by the current program.

  6. Keep Configuration Sources You Can Migrate

    The subscription URL, custom YAML files, rule-set URLs and required overrides matter more than the client's cache directory. Save these sources before switching clients, then import and verify them individually; this is usually more reliable than copying the entire old directory.
